Used Rims

Unless you have an unlimited supply of money, you probably are hesitant to be out the cash that is required to purchase new rims for your car. But whether you are looking to upgrade to better looking rims or just need to replace a broken rim, you might consider used rims that are in good shape and that have been taken care of.

Function or Performance?

Before searching for used rims, you must decide if you want to buy functional or performance rims. Functional rims are designed to handle particular driving conditions while performance rims are designed specifically for looks. You must also know what size used rims you are looking to purchase, which is dependent upon the size of your car and tires. Smaller cars usually require thirteen-inch rims, while SUVs or trucks may need twenty-seven inch rims. The best place to find out the size of rims you need is to consult your owner’s manual, or look on the tire wall to find out what size tires you have on the car.

Finding Used Rims

Used rims can be found in a variety of places, including junkyards, and from private sellers on websites like Craigslist.Org or Ebay.Com. It is important that you make certain to purchase rims that have a weight rating that exceeds the weight of the car on which they will be installed. Again, the owner’s manual will have weight information that you can go by. If the used rims seller does not know the weight rating, you can also look for this information online.

When selecting used rims, be sure to avoid those that have visible wear and tear or scratches. They will inevitably need to be replaced on down the road. Also keep in mind that while buying used rims may look like a good idea initially, they do not come with a warranty in most cases.
