Let’s look at how to properly clean your tires using basic tire cleaners and degreasers.

Begin by spraying your tires with a garden hose, or if you’re using a self-service car wash, with the high pressure water wand. Next, spray tire degreaser over the entire tire and its rim. Allow this degreaser to sit for a few minutes in order to break down dirt, grease and grime that accumulates on your tires. Rinse the tires thoroughly, getting as close to the tire itself as possible.

Use one of the many tire cleaners that is on the market. Foaming tire cleaners tend to do a more thorough job of cleaning the tire, and many of them now contain tire preservatives that can make your tires look shiny and last longer. Some of these foams are self-cleaning and require you to do nothing other than wipe away some residue when they are finished foaming, which takes around five minutes or so. Others may require you to lather them up using a stiff brush and then spray away the residue with a hose. Read the instructions carefully for the tire cleaners that you decide to try out. Additionally, you may want to buff the rims of the tire once tire cleaners have done their “work” to bring back the shine and to rub away any remaining tire cleaning product.
