Are you in the market for a new car or truck? If so, you likely want to pay as little as possible to get behind the wheel. There is an art to getting the best price on new cars and trucks, and it doesn’t have anything to do with dealer rebates or trade-ins. Let’s look at the best times of day, week, month, and year to purchase new cars and trucks at the lowest cost possible. Consider shopping for that new vehicle:
- On a rainy day. Rain drives customers away. There will be fewer new cars and trucks sold on rainy days, and salesmen know this. That’s why you can really dicker with a car salesman when the lot is wet – and his quota is far from being met.
- Holiday periods. Holidays are the slowest time of year for car dealerships, and this is particularly true of the Christmas holiday season. Take advantage of the dealership’s hunger for sales by holding off on buying new cars and trucks until after Thanksgiving when most folks are spending their money at the mall.
- In the minutes before closing time. If the dealership closes at six o’clock, arrive at a quarter till the hour and start stacking up the good deals you’ll be offered on new cars and trucks. A motivated salesman will not be able to resist the urge to add one more sale to his books before the day ends.
- Early in the week. New cars and trucks that sell on the weekend always bring more money because there are so many shoppers at this time that salesmen rarely offer any big discount. Shop on Monday or Tuesday, however, and you will have the undivided attention of the salesperson, and are likely to get a better deal.
- At the end of the month. If a dealer is short of selling a few cars before the end of the month, he can miss out on valuable bonuses from the car manufacturer. This may be one of the best times to swoop in and buy a vehicle at a real steal.
- End of the model year. And last of all, when the new cars and trucks for the next model year begin to roll into the showroom, the existing inventory becomes a liability to the dealer. Look for huge discounts at the end of each model year.
