Chrome Rims

If you just installed chrome rims, you may be wondering how to best care for them; after all, chrome is expensive and this is a big investment. To clean your chrome rims, you will need a special chamois cloth, soap, water and a garden hose, and a can of cola. Keep in mind that you always want to clean chrome rims when they are cool to the touch because this ensures an even, clean finish. A chamois or other soft cloth is invariably used because other types of cleaning rags can be too abrasive and may scratch the chrome.

First of all, spray down the chrome rims and your wheels using the garden hose in order to remove any surface dirt and debris as well as road salt and grime. In a bucket, mix up a solution of water and mild dish soap (you can also use car wash concentrate or other cleaner). Using the chamois, work the cleaning solution into the rims in a small circular motion while applying gentle pressure. Use the garden hose to rinse the solution from the chrome rims and wheels.

Next, inspect the rims to see that there is no remaining debris or dirt on them. If your chrome rims have begun to corrode or rust, take an ordinary can of dark cola and pour it slowly over the rims, working the soda in a circle using the chamois cloth. Again, rinse using your garden hose.

Using a fresh, clean chamois, buff the chrome rims gently and enjoy your handiwork!
